'SOLO' - mini-album (2016)

Louis Romégoux - 'SOLO' out now on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and more!

Released November 2016 - tour dates coming soon!

My new mini-album "Solo" is out now digitally on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and via many more online music stores.

"Solo" is a collection of original songs and a few versions of traditional folk classics such as "Dives and Lazarus" and "Colchiques dans les prés". I returned to the legendary 2Fly Studios, Sheffield in Spring 2016 to work with the fantastic Dave Sanderson to make this stripped-back, intimate folk record featuring just my voice and my guitar. It's my first release in a long (too long!) time and I'm very excited to present this to you! A record launch in Sheffield and an accompanying UK/mainland European tour will be happening in January 2017. Watch this space! I plan to get this pressed to both CD and vinyl too - online sales coming soon!

The record can be purchased digitally worldwide for 8,99€ (or your currency equivalent) here:

'Milou EP' (2014)

Reviews

- "...Louis’ singing here conjures something of the Nouvelle Chanson. Especially as the curtain lifts on a string section and muted brass in the latter half, evoking the opening credits of a 60s glamour flick – complete with open-topped classic car effortlessly careening around the winding corniches of the French Riviera with a bouquet of roses in the back seat and a sheer drop three feet to one side. It takes guts to embrace a genre so completely out of step with current trends – so I enthusiastically doff my chapeau to him. I like the boldness, the strong delivery (and the easiness to the arrangements), the clever hook – and the confidence to bring it all together without the ugly caveat of irony. This is very well done." Louis Barabbas, Fresh Faves, 2014, Freshonthenet.co.uk

- "...This tune ('In My Room') is much more up-tempo than I expected it to be. Released in May this year, In My Room catapults from one verse to another with no care for any sort of health and safety check. Originally from Sheffield, Louis Romegoux has now migrated to Austria to pursue his music career (half his Facebook page is in German, hahaha). And it seems to be working – the blogs like him, radio likes him, and we like him here at FOTN (Fresh on the Net). Sam Bonham, Fresh Faves 134, 2014 http://freshonthenet.co.uk/2014/12/faves134/

Review of Milou EP in Now Then Magazine, May 2014
"At times wistful, sometimes forceful and occasionally blissful, the new EP Milou by Louis Romégoux is a taut collection of songs that effortlessly combines folk music with garage rock. Romégoux is a half-French, half-English singer-songwriter, born and raised in Sheffield but now residing in Austria. The choice to live overseas seems to have had an effect on his music as he draws influences from both sides of the water.

Milou opens with ‘Day By Day’, a light-hearted and catchy number which draws similarities to The Tallest Man On Earth. This serenity is quickly juxtaposed with the mournful urgency of ‘In My Room’. The vocal performance is demanding as he yearns, “Please come back to me”. His voice compares with Guy Garvey of Elbow in that he is able to switch between subtle melancholy and dynamic tension with ease. The EP gracefully moves into more traditional, plaintive folk territory with ‘Warm In Winter’. The collection concludes with ‘Start A War’ and ‘Ballad’ - the former a wry tale very much reminiscent of Swedish songwriter Jens Lekman, the latter building to an aggressive crescendo.

Louis Romégoux should be congratulated for creating a rich and varied work with such a small collection of songs. With the ability to build on such a wide-ranging palate, it will be exciting to see if he puts out a full-length record in the near future. The music may be his vision, but this EP could not have been achieved without the accompaniment of Thom Mills on drums and Paul Riley on bass. Special mention should also go to Charlie McClean, whose production and arrangements lend the music a certain sharpness instead of just softening the edges."

REVIEW OF LETTERS EP
by TASHA FRANEK in NOW THEN MAGAZINE, APRIL 2013
"A folk fanatic born and raised in Sheffield, Louis Romégoux may have moved on to pastures new but we'll continue to chant 'Yorkshire' with pride as we count his brand new EP, Letters, as another local triumph. Drawing influences from both sides of his Franco-British dual heritage, Letters is a fine example of folk done well. The 6-track is an eclectic mix within its genre, showcasing everything from the upbeat and lively to the more traditional and familiar.

A good example of this is the title track, in which we are treated to a dynamic fusion of cultural influences, seemingly the essence of Romégoux's music. The contemporary feel of the song comes from the funky, soulful rhythm which, when paired with a playful melody, creates a Latin vibe that begs to be danced to. The second verse in French gives the song a more personal touch, whilst unavoidably evoking the sort of passion and sexuality which can only be created by the language of love. 'Lizard King' continues with the sensuality as Romégoux sings of "one night in Paris". Although much more traditional in its folk sound, this song still captures the same European heart, setting it aside from other similar UK-born folk artists.

'Love and Wine' and 'Miss Schadenfreude' reminded me of much of the popular folk of this century, particularly The Tallest Man on Earth and Johnny Flynn. Cutesy high-pitch, up-tempo guitar riffs paired with love ballad lyrics; the songs are current, catchy and very likeable. Tying the record up in a neat bow, Romégoux throws in a couple of pseudo-folk tracks for the traditionalists amongst us. The old and new are married in perfect quantities to create something that is both original and approachable.

This EP is a great little teaser of what is yet to come from Romégoux. I predict a full-length album will be on the cards soon enough. Although currently residing in Austria, Romégoux is set to announce his UK tour for this spring soon, so keep an eye on his website. I'm sure he will be swinging by his hometown in the not-too-distant future."
